oh, you mean i'm supposed to keep updating this thing?

OK. Here I sit at BWI airport, waiting for my (upgraded) flight to Charlotte, and the on to Nashville for the 2005 edition of the International Bluegrass Music Conference, aka "the world of bluegrass." I land around noon, and will zip right downtown to the convention center. I'd rather go shopping, as I've just realized I left my mascara and blush (and brush) at home. Oh well, there goes another 75 bucks, or so.

at least I remembered my sunglasses and toothbrush.

another saturday, another couple of flights in my quest to regain Chairman's status on USAIR. Why? For the free trans-atlantic upgrade, and free companion upgrade. My friend ( fellow blogger nm: see www.floraandflying.blogspot.com) and I are talking about a visit to Manchester, UK over the january holiday weekend ---and I'm nagging my wonderful sister to come along. That coupon would let us both upgrade on 400 dollar fares.

I've never visited Manchester, but nm says it's a city worth checking out. It's an easy trip, so it's perfect for a long winter weekend.

I usually head to London for a break over the feb holiday, but seeing as I've gotten snowed in, or snowed out the past two years, I may be rethinking that plan.

So, today I'm flying bwi-phl-rdu-clt-bwi...in other words, down to raleigh and back home by 3:45 this afternoon. Giving me time to pick up the cleaning before they close.

Sunday will be laundry day, Monday rush to get everything done day, and then it's off to Nashville on Tuesday for the annual meeting of the international bluegrass music association. I'm up for an IBMA award this year, so there's no way I'd miss it. I'm also sitting on a panel Thursday---judging song demos. But most of all, it's a chance to catch up with friends I don't see half often enough.

that's it from philadelphia....next stop, raleigh.

OK, who else picks out the phrase in the last posting that proves I'm over the hill?

tick tick tick...

It is "in living color." For those of you under a certain age, the phrase harkens back to the early days of color TV...and hearing that a show was broadcast (sometimes live!) "in living color" was certainly mocking to those of us still watching B/W. As we did til my father built (!) a set in 1968 or 69.

BTW, I still own a b/w tv set. A high school graduation gift from my brother and his then wife. 13" I believe. It still works perfectly, and pulls in the over-the-air channels that I can't get clearly on any other TV in the house ---hence the need for the dish. On all the tv's but the b/w one. Although that would be conversation piece!

Hmm. this cute little quiz was sent to me today, but I can't figure out how to make the html work---which would let you see this in living color and with a few cute graphics. Anyway, enter your name, and share with us the cocktail that is you. The joan is a somewhat tasty mixture, but I'm not sure there's enough ego in it to succeed in this world.

How to make a joan :
Ingredients:
3 parts competetiveness
5 parts crazyiness
1 part ego
Method:
Stir together in a glass tumbler with a salted rim. Add a little sadness if desired!

Darrell Scott made me cry today. And that's a good thing. Proof that art works. And that I'm not as burned out as I sometimes feel, or as jaded as I sometimes fear.

Thanks for the recharge Darrell!

After years of near misses, I finally interviewed Darrell Scott.

The long wait was worth it, even if "Uncle Lloyd" did make me cry. I can't remember that happening before in the studio! * The entire world is going to hear me sniffling a bit. But hey, Darrell was singing away just six feet from me, and that's one sad song!

If you're not familiar with Darrell, please visit www.darrellscott.com. And do yourself a favor by purchasing his entire catalog. Don't waste your time by buying just one or two CDs. Get them all. Now. You won't regret it.

The new CD, "Hank William's Ghost," should be out in the first quarter of 06, and if the song I heard is any indication, it's going to be ANOTHER winner.

Words of wisdom for today: Bring kleenex, or sit a couple of rows back when you see Darrell Scott. We were sitting six feet apart, don't try that if you're not a professional.

* several have made me WANT to cry in frustration, but that's not the same.

PS. Thank you Miss Kissy. You bring me the best guests!

I am a writer. I write daily. So, why can't I get this blog started?

Perhaps I'm thinking too much.

So, we'll start simply. Like by saying "I really like those three dots at the top of the page."

There. That wasn't so bad.
