hmm...water in the oil time. bob's old powerbook doesn't have a superdrive (allows dvd burning), just the combo, which reads dvds, but burns only to cd.

buy an external dvd burner or do you want to buy a new mac?
I'm thinking your itching to buy a new one. ;)
When do you really think you'll burn a dvd while on the road?
nm
no, i don't think so. I am itching to buy a new one, but really don't have the money. I have no idea what an external drive costs, but i bet it, plus 400 bucks for the computer, is less than the 1500 i need to replace mine. I could replace it with an ibook, however. That's a few hundred less.
iBooks ARE fun (and cheaper than powerbooks), but check around first to see how much a dvd burner would cost. $400 is a very good price! (Of course, I'd REALLY like for you to get the new MacBook Pro...but I'm trying to be sensible.)
don't forget free shipping!
free shipping, because his mother is carrying it back to DC.
