i went out to get the paper this morning, and saw the lawn adorned with many dandelions. NO way I can dig up all those, my yard would look like a WW2 minefield!

I hate to resort to chemicals, but fear I must.

Use a dandelion puller and if you are lucky, the grass will grow back faster than the weeds.

At least that is what we hope.

I certainly can commiserate. Today I saw my 'weekend garden' for the first time in a couple of weeks.
Whew, it was bordered on the grassy side by dandelions, hundreds of them! Tough, gnarly ones. I exhausted myself with my weeder, and only cleared about a foot, all the while scattering seeds into my garden. (Of course I didn't de-head them before diving into the middle of them.)
So I was having similar deadly thoughts, knowing that if I use chemicals they will surely wash into my organic (so far) garden. Ugh.

Hah, I'm about to go out there now and do that one thing. Don the latex glove s and the dandelion puller and fill a 5 gallon bucket with those dandelions.

Hmm. I think maybe I'll make wine.

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal last week (read it the morning after I posted here) about organic lawn fertilizers and herbicides, if you are interested. Available at Lowe's.
