I used to enjoy watching the food network. But in the past year or so, it's started to bore me. I finally figured out why: it's too pretty. and no food.

of course, it took Bill Buford, Anthony Bourdain, and the New Yorker to drive that point home to me.

"Anthony Bourdain lamented when I spoke to him. “The Food Network is weeding out the Old Guard real-chef cooking shows like missing Molotovs—‘Molto Mario,’ Sara Moulton.”

go here for the gory story.

No food, and no chefs! If I want to watch someone goof around while cooking, I'll hang a mirror in my kitchen. If I want beauty shots of pecans, I'll pull out a copy of Glorious Food. Yeesh!

You're right. If something cannot be whipped up in less than 15 minutes, they usually don't show it. I don't watch as much as I used to. I'll catch Giada and Ina but that's about it.
